Portland braces for short heat wave

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

It's time to trade those rain boots for water shoes. This week's forecast shows clear skies and multiple days with near triple-digit temperatures.

Thursday, Beaverton City Park was already packed with children enjoying the summer-like weather. The forecast shows Portland hitting 90 degrees on Sunday, 95 degrees Monday and then 98 degrees Tuesday before cooling down in time for Independence Day.

"I'm going to be swimming at my grandma's pool and coming here," 12-year-old Gavin Pesce said.

For many children, summer vacation got off to a slow start with mostly gloomy and rainy days.

Nearby at the Beaverton Home Depot, workers were already restocking air conditioners and fans.

"Definitely get in soon because I guarantee by tomorrow, half the stuff you see here will be gone," said one appliance specialist.
