When cab driver Harpreet Jhass picked up a passenger on the corner of NE 164th and Glisan, on the night of June 16th, he never imagined it would turn into a robbery.
"People in Portland are so nice and friendly, I was not thinking about that even," Jhass said.
Jhass said it was Eric Russell who got in, and told him to just start driving.
When they arrived in a dark and deserted place, he said Russell became violent.
"He removed the knife and just put it on me like this and told me, ‘Give me your money now.'
Jhass said Russell took $60 cash, and his cell phone.
He then made him get out of the car, and forced him to walk down the street at knife point.
Fearing for his life, Jhass fought back.
"I just pushed him, and he ran after me with the knife. I was a little bit fast, so he went into the bushes," Jhass said.
Jhass managed to escape without getting hurt, then ran to a nearby store and called 911.
Gresham police say over the course of the last 4 months Russell has robbed 3 other cab drivers in the exact same way.
The other cases happened on SE 182nd and Division Street, and NE 181st and Oregon street.
The drivers work for Broadway Cab and Green Cab, and luckily none of them were hurt.
Gresham police need your help finding Russell, who they say is a transient, but has ties in Gresham and Portland.
If you have any information give them a call.
