A child was hit by a car and suffered traumatic injuries in southeast Portland Thursday.
Police said it happened around 11:30 a.m. at Southeast 82nd and Center Street.
A family was crossing in a crosswalk and stopped after reaching the center median, according to police. A 10-year-old boy stepped out into the crosswalk toward the west side of 82nd Avenue and was hit by a southbound Honda driven by a 58-year-old woman.
Witnesses said the driver didn't have enough time to stop.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene and found a young boy badly hurt. The first police officer there immediately performed CPR until medical personnel arrived.
The child was rushed to a Portland hospital and listed in critical condition Thursday.
The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with police. Investigators said speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash. No citations have been issued.
Southeast 82nd Avenue was closed between Holgate and Powell for the investigation.
