Detectives arrest man accused of slaying in NE Portland

Posted: Updated:

A 26-year-old man is being held in a Portland jail on a murder charge after a stabbing outside a northeast Portland home on the Fourth of July.

Salathiel Dale and the victim, 33-year-old Duane Bailey, were in a domestic relationship, and there was a disturbance between the two around 9 p.m. at the home in the 400 block of Northeast Going Street.

Eventually, police said, Dale stabbed Bailey while they were out in the street. Bailey was rushed to a Portland hospital and died of his injuries.

Police set up a perimeter in the area and were able to track down Dale, who matched a suspect description.

Homicide detectives were called out to the scene to begin the death investigation. They initially detained Dale, then arrested him on a charge of murder and booked him into the Multnomah County Jail.

Police had Northeast Going Street from Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to Seventh Avenue closed off as they investigated.

Dale will make his first court appearance Monday.
