PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A 25-year-old man was driving at speeds of about 70 mph when he lost control and crashed at an east Portland intersection Friday morning.

Portland police said Cory Dodge did not have a seat belt on when he lost control at 60th Avenue and Burnside Street.

Dodge's car hit an embankment as he crossed over Burnside, rolled and then struck a tree, causing massive damage to the car.

Investigators said Dodge likely died instantly.

Based on information from witnesses, police said Dodge's speeding was a factor in the crash.

The Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office will have toxicology tests performed, and it will take several weeks to get the results.

Police closed 60th Avenue for hours so they could investigate the crash Friday morning.
