Illegal firework explosion injures four in Portland

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

An exploding illegal firework injured four people outside a northeast Portland home on Fourth of July.

Police arrested Zachary Mosbrucker, of southwest Portland, on four counts of reckless endangerment.

They said he lit some kind of firework rocket in the 6500 block of Northwest Broadway, but it exploded above the heads of the four victims rather than higher up in the air.

Michael Molesworth, 38, was struck in the face, and a 16-year-old boy was hit multiple times in the back. They were taken to Portland hospitals to be treated.

Police said 39-year-old Gina Thornlow, who lives at the northeast Portland home, and 18-year-old Cheyann Yates, of Milwaukie, were also injured, but only needed treatment at the scene by paramedics.

Mosbrucker did not know the victims, police said.
