MANNING, OR (KPTV) -

A motorcycle rider suffered serious injuries when he slammed into a pickup truck on Highway 26 on Thursday.

State police said the pickup's driver, Eric Lyon, made a U-turn with limited visibility while in stop-and-go traffic near Manning.

As he pulled across the double solid centerline, the motorcycle collided with the front of the pickup, police said.

The motorcycle rider, 25-year-old Justin Patey from Wilsonville, was thrown from his bike. A LifeFlight helicopter rushed him to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center to be treated for serious injuries.

Patey was wearing a helmet at the time.

Lyon wasn't injured, and he provided initial medical care to Patey until paramedics arrived.

The highway was closed for about one hour.
