SALEM, OR (KPTV) -

A Salem man died Friday evening, when his motorcycle crashed head-on into a pickup about 16 miles northeast of Detroit, in Marion County.

Both vehicles caught fire in the collision.  Deputies responded to the scene on Brietenbush Road at about 6:00 p.m. to find the charred remnants of a Yamaha motorcycle and a Toyota Tacoma pickup.

Early results of the crash investigation indicate that the motorcyclist was traveling northeast on Brietenbush Road when he lost control and ran into the pickup.

Roger Lambert, age 54, of Salem, died at the scene.

Neither the driver nor the passenger in the pickup were hurt.

A spokesman for the Marion County Sheriff's Office says Brietenbush Road is a popular road for motorcyclists during the summer months, as it has sharp turns and sudden elevation changes.

The investigation into the accident is continuing.
