Thorns FC fall to Boston Breakers

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Thorns FC appear to be in a mid-season slump as they suffered their second straight loss.

Portland took on the Boston Breakers on Saturday afternoon at JELD-WEN field.

Boston and U.S. Women's National Team forward Sydney Leroux scored a brace in the first half.

She found the net in both the 11th and 38th minutes.

Portland attempted a season high of 20 shots during the match but still couldn't get on the score sheet.

Final score 2-0 Boston.

Thorns head coach Cindy Parlow Cone praised Sydney Leroux's talent:

"[She] is a world class forward, and you just can't give her chances like that, having her turn and run at our defense... she's going to put those [shots] away nine times out of ten."

Despite the loss, Thorns FC are still in second place in the National Women's Soccer League, even though they haven't scored a goal in three matches.

The Thorns will be back in action at JELD-WEN next Sunday when they take on the Western New York Flash.
