Cell phone driving fines to increase in Oregon

Posted: Updated:
SALEM, OR (KPTV) -

Drivers in Oregon who get caught using a cell phone behind the wheel could soon be paying a heftier fine.

Both the Senate and the House have passed a new bill to raise the fine for using your cell phone while driving.

The maximum fine right now is $250, but the bill will double that to $500.

The money will pay for 100 more signs across the state warning drivers that it's against the law to talk or text while driving.

The bill is now headed to the governor's desk for his signature.
