Two men driving on I-5 in southern Oregon were hiding 30 pounds of heroin in their car, according to Oregon State Police.
An OSP trooper stopped a Ford van with California license plates at 7:30 a.m. July 5 for a speeding violation. The van was heading north near Milepost 11 south of Ashland.
Subsequent investigation during the traffic stop led the trooper to 30 pounds of heroin in the car's trunk area. Investigators said the estimated value of the seized heroin is in excess of $600,000.
The two men in the car were arrested. Jose Esparza, 26, of Calexico, CA and Armando Villasenor Jr., 21, of El Centro, CA were booked in the Jackson County Jail on charges of unlawful manufacture, possession and delivery of a controlled substance.
