A 13-year-old boy is accused of robbing another boy in a Southeast Portland Park.
Police responded to Glenwood Park on the report of an assault with a BB gun Monday evening.
An 11-year-old boy told them that the suspect came up to him, and demanded his skateboard while pointing the BB gun at him.
"I gave him the board because I didn't want to get shot in the face," said Gavin Campbell, who considered hitting the boy with his skateboard, instead of handing it over.
The victim gave the suspect his skateboard, and the suspect walked away, police said.
Campbell said his friend then called their parents.
"When I got the phone call saying that (someone pointed a gun at Gavin Campbell), my stomach just flip-flopped," said Matthew Campbell, Gavin Campbell's father. "I was really scared. I couldn't get (to the park) fast enough."
Matthew Campbell said when he arrived, he spotted the suspect, took the skateboard back and took the gun from the suspect's waistband. At the time, he didn't know the gun was just a BB gun, he said.
"I told my son I'm very proud of him; he did the right thing," Matthew Campbell said.
When officers arrived, they learned that the suspect had also approached an 18-year-old woman, pointed the BB gun at her and threatened to shoot her.
She walked away from the suspect unharmed, police said.
Police told FOX 12 the suspect also approached a 12-year-old girl and demanded her iPhone while pointing his BB gun at her.
The victim walked away and did not give the boy anything, officers said.
Officers took the young suspect into custody.
The 13-year-old was lodged at the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention home on a second-degree robbery charge.
Additional charges may be added by the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office, police said.
