Teen girl sentenced in gang killing

Posted: Updated:

A local teen is headed to prison for 15 years for her part in the gang killing of a boy in northeast Portland.

A judge formally sentenced Josefina Ramirez Friday for her role in the death of 13-year-old Julio Marquez. She pleaded guilty to charges of attempted murder and assault.

Ramirez was just 15 at the time of the killing, but was charged as an adult.

Two children found the victim's body on northeast Halsey street in November of 2011. He had been beaten and shot several times.

Along with Ramirez, police arrested Ezequiel and Samuel Vasquez. The brothers were sentenced to 20 years each for manslaughter.

According to her plea deal, Ramirez helped in the prosecution of the other suspects in exchange for her shorter sentence.
