TUALATIN, OR (KPTV) -

Police searched a Tualatin neighborhood in hopes of finding a driver who crashed a BMW during a chase Wednesday night.

A Tualatin Police Department spokesman said officers tried to stop the driver of the 2013 BMW for a minor traffic violation at 9:45 p.m., but the driver refused to pull over.

Instead, the suspect sped off and eluded officers at a high rate of speed.

Tualatin officers gave up on their pursuit for safety reasons, but the suspect continued to drive erratically for more than a half mile.

Eventually, the BMW driver crashed into a Ford F-150 truck at the intersection of Southwest Avery Street and Boones Ferry Road, then crashed into a utility pole and struck a fence at the corner of the intersection.

The truck's driver suffered a minor injury in the wreck.

Meanwhile, the suspect managed to escape from the crash scene by running off on foot.

Officers blocked off the intersection and searched the neighborhood extensively, but they never found the driver.

Ken Smith, who lives near the intersection of Avery and Boones Ferry Road, said it's one of the worst crashes he has heard or seen at the intersection. He has lived at his home for 47 years.

"It hit hard enough that it shook the house," Smith said. "The noise was worse than the worst thunder you've ever heard in your life."

Tualatin police haven't released a description of the driver. They said he or she will face multiple felony charges, including reckless driving, eluding police, hit-and-run and assault.
