Evacuation orders lifted for fire near La Pine

Posted: Updated:

Firefighters are battling a wildfire that sparked Monday afternoon south of La Pine.

The fire grew quickly and spread to about 350 acres.

At one point it threatened about 120 homes in Jack Pine Village and the Antelope Meadows subdivision.

Evacuations there were ordered, and later lifted.

Two elite Hotshots crews were traveling to help create fire lines as of early Tuesday morning.

Fire officials called in several air tankers and at least one helicopter to help gain the upper hand.

As of Tuesday morning it was only 10 percent contained.

Firefighters say the hot and dry conditions expected to persist in Central Oregon for the near future, and fire officials want to remind visitors to public land to use caution.

Conditions are very dry for this time of year and wildfires could easily ignite.

Firefighters in Oregon are also dealing with a much larger fire near Warm Springs.

It's burned some 22,000 acres so far.
