ROSEBURG, OR (KPTV) -

A small plane lost power and made an emergency landing on Interstate 5 between Roseburg and Sutherlin on Wednesday afternoon.

The plane came to a stop in a median along the freeway, and did not block traffic. It was set to remain there until it could be prepped for a trailer and taken away.

No timetable was put in place for that to happen.

State police, local police and ODOT crews responded to the scene at about 1:49 p.m. on I-5 near milepost 131.

Two people were on board the plane. The pilot, Marc Girardet, 38, of Tenmile, said the plane was heading toward Portland from Roseburg. About 20 minutes into the flight, the plane began to lose power.

Girardet said he turned around to return to Roseburg when he had to make an emergency landing. He touched down on the freeway and steered toward the center median.

Girardet and his passenger, a 65-year-old unidentified man, were not hurt.

While traffic continued moving in both directions, police urged drivers not to be distracted by the unusual sight of an airplane parked in the center median of the highway.
