PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Surveillance video from a MAX train led police to arrest a man who was stabbed by a 13-year-old boy Wednesday.

Police said 32-year-old Mitchell Field started a fight with the boy on a southbound MAX train around 3 p.m.

Field punched and choked the boy before the teen retrieved a knife and stabbed Field in self-defense to get away from him, police said.

Officers said Field and the boy didn't know each other and it wasn't immediately clear what led him to allegedly attack the teen.

Police and paramedics were called out to the Holgate Boulevard Transit Station, 9369 S.E. Holgate Blvd., on the report of the stabbing. As they headed toward the scene, additional information was reported that Field got off at the Powell Boulevard stop.

They found Field and took him to a hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. Once he was released from the hospital, and after investigators spoke with multiple witnesses and reviewed the surveillance video, they arrested Field and booked him into the Multnomah County Jail on charges of strangulation, interfering with public transportation and offensive physical contact.

The 13-year-old boy was released to his mother.
