PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A standoff in southeast Portland ended when police officers found a man dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound Thursday morning.

The police bureau's Special Emergency Reaction Team, its version of SWAT, served a search warrant at a home near Southeast 99th Avenue and Woodstock Boulevard at 6 a.m.

When a man inside didn't come out after numerous attempts by crisis negotiators to contact him, SERT deployed tear gas into the home.

SERT officers then made entry into the garage and found the man dead.

Detectives and forensic evidence specialists are now investigating the death.

It wasn't immediately known what crimes the suspect was alleged to have committed.
