Volunteers begin patrol on Portland's Vista Bridge

Posted: Updated:
PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Volunteers have begun their patrols on Portland's Vista Bridge in hopes of preventing suicides.

The first volunteer started his patrol overnight.

The volunteers will be wearing orange reflective vests and want to become a constant sight on the bridge until the city can take action.

City Commissioner Steve Novick announced a plan several weeks ago to install anti-suicide barriers and nets.

Signs with numbers for crisis hotlines have also been posted on the bridge.
