KELSO, WA (KPTV) -

A suffocated cat wrapped in duct tape was found inside a backpack in Kelso.

Cowlitz County Animal Control spokesman Mike Nicholson said a man on the 700 block of South Third Avenue discovered the backpack. He told investigators his dogs were focused in on it, at his backyard fence line Sunday.

Nicholson said the cat was a neutered male Lynx Point Siamese, and was clearly someone's pet. Its legs had been duct taped together, and tape was also wrapped around its body.

The cat got its legs free from the tape, Nicholson said, but suffocated in the backpack. There were claw marks inside the bag from the cat, likely attempting to escape.

Investigators are trying to track down the owner, but the cat did not have a microchip. There is no suspect information at this time.

If you know anything about this case, call Nicholson at 360-577-0151.
