Police: Thief stole car and sold it in less than a day

Posted: Updated:

Portland police are trying to track down a man accused of stealing a car in northeast Portland and then selling it in less than a day.

Officers took the original report on Oct. 10, 2012. The victims said their 2005 Scion was locked and parked on the street on the 2000 block of Northeast 27th Avenue when it was stolen between 9 p.m. Oct. 9 and 10 a.m. Oct. 10.

Police then took another report on Oct. 16, 2012 from two people from Vancouver who unknowingly bought the stolen Scion. They responded to an ad on Craigslist and completed the transaction for $5,800 at the Jantzen Beach Shopping Center Oct. 10, the same day the car was reported stolen.

The buyers received the key and a title to the vehicle. When they tried to register it, they learned the title was fake and the car was stolen.

Those victims took a photo of the suspect at the time of the sale. He is described as a white man in his mid-to-late 20s, 5'10" and 170 pounds. He had red hair and blue eyes.

Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward up of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest in this case. Call 503-823-HELP or go to www.crimestoppersoforegon.com.
