Woman arrested accused of being prolific pickpocket

An accused prolific pickpocket faces 17 felony charges after being arrested by Portland police.

Police arrested 38-year-old Cheryl Golphin on numerous charges related to theft and fraud. 

Detectives started investigating several cases where victims lost credit or debit charges only to discover that someone was using them to purchase gift cards and designer handbags.

Police learned Golphin approached unsuspecting victims in cafes, coffee shops, restaurants and grocery stores and stole their credit cards.

In many cases police say, Golphin was able to retrieve the credit cards and return the wallets without the victim knowing. 

Detectives believe she may be involved in several other cases in the Portland Metro area and continue to investigate reports.

Golphin was booked on 17 felony charges including aggravated identity theft, fraudulent use of a credit card and identity theft.

She is expect to be arraigned later today.
