Racist graffiti spray-painted on garages near Beaverton area walking trail

WASHINGTON COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

Offensive, racist graffiti was spray-painted on the back of two parking structures at an apartment complex near Beaverton. The Washington County Sheriff's Office is trying to figure out who was responsible.

The graffiti was reported Monday morning near a walking trail just east of the Sir Charles Court Apartments along Northwest Avondale Drive. The graffiti included swastikas, pictures of male genitalia and the N-word. A sign on the other side of the trail was also hit along with a car parked in a lot near the parking structures.

"Insensitive and scary," said Cory Guerts, who lives in the area. "It was upsetting."

"We have quite a bit of diversity in our apartment complex, but I've never seen anything like that," said Lucinda Dinkel. "I mean, it was quite shocking."

Someone notified the Washington County Sheriff's Office about the graffiti shortly before 8 a.m. Monday. A deputy came out to the area, took some pictures, wrote a report and found several cans of black and purple spray paint in the area, investigators told FOX 12.

"It's just not polite," said Bridget Hill. "It's just not a polite thing to do. And it costs, you know, the owners here need money to clean over it."

By Monday afternoon, all of the graffiti spray-painted on the apartment complex's property had been covered up.

Investigators don't know if the messages were targeted toward anyone who lives in the area, but they are taking the matter seriously.

Whoever was responsible will likely face criminal mischief charges, investigators said.
