Search and rescue team gets new high-tech radios

Posted: Updated:

A big donation has life-saving potential for the Mount Hood Search and Rescue Council.

The Clackamas Federal Credit Union donated $10,000 to the group.

That means the rescuers were able to buy 10 new "in-reach" radio units.

Eric Hanson told Fox 12 that the radios are great because satellite technology allows them to keep track of where the rescue team is located at all times.

"We can get some instant messaging on them," Hanson said. "So in instances where we can't communicate real well with our base, this is another form of communication that allows us to reach them."

Volunteers tested out the new devices Monday at Southeast Portland's Laurelhurst Park.
