PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

The family of University of Oregon grad Kenneth Bae is still holding out hope the U.S. will rescue him from a North Korea labor camp.

Bae is an American citizen who is serving a 15-year sentence after a conviction on crimes against the North Korean Government.

Bae has denied those claims.

He now says he wants the U.S. to try harder to get him amnesty.

He says he faces eight hours a day of farm labor.

Japanese and Korean news agencies are reporting that former President Jimmy Carter is at least considering going to North Korea to possibly negotiate Bae's release.

However The Carter Centers says the former President has no immediate plans to make a trip.
