Tanker truck, chemical truck and power poles in Pearl District crash

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A crazy accident scene in the Pearl District involved two big trucks, power poles and at least one crushed car.

It all happened at around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Northwest 14th and Marshall.

Witnesses said a chemical truck tried to pull out of the way of a nearby tanker truck, but the driver accidentally hit a guide line connected to a power pole. When the truck pulled forward, the line brought down one power pole and it led to a domino effect.

The surrounding poles and lines also came down. The two trucks, along with two cars, were draped in power lines when firefighters arrived. One car was crushed by a transformer.

Amazingly, emergency crews said nobody was trapped or hurt.

Pedestrian, vehicle and light rail traffic were all shut down in the area to prevent any contact with the power lines. There was no timetable provided for reopening the roads.

Portland General Electric workers shut off the power lines. A PGE spokesperson said about 240 people were without power in the immediate area. The power was expected to be restored by Tuesday evening.
