A Portland police officer suffered a hand injury when a stun grenade exploded in his hand Wednesday morning.

The accident happened during a training exercise on Airport Way at 7 a.m.

The injured officer is a 23-year veteran of the police bureau and is a member of the Special Emergency Reaction Team, which is the police bureau's equivalent of a SWAT team.

Police said the officer survived the explosion and is being treated at a Portland hospital. His name has not been released.
