PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A 10-year-old boy who fell 50 yards down a hillside on Mount Hood has been upgraded to fair condition at a Portland hospital.

Cole Hancock continues to recover at Oregon Health & Science University Hospital after his July 23 fall.

Hancock and his father went on a one-night camping trip in the White River area of Mount Hood last week.

They hiked for about three hours and set up camp for the night. As it started to get dark, the two decided to hike up a hill near the area and took photos toward the top.

On their way back down, Hancock lost his balance and fell.

He suffered serious internal injuries, and it took hours before rescue crews could reach him.

In an interview with FOX 12 last week, Cole's father, Kim Hancock, said he was trying to stay positive for his son and family.

"You know you go through a lot of emotional moments; of anger and blame. They come and go. It's traumatic to go through something like that with your son," said Kim Hancock.
