Driver killed in head-on crash with ambulance

EUGENE, OR (KPTV) -

An SUV slammed head-on into an ambulance near Eugene, killing one person and injuring three others.

The crash happened at 11:50 a.m. Wednesday on Clear Lake Road near Green Hill Road northwest of Eugene.

Investigators said a Eugene Fire & EMS ambulance occupied by two paramedics and one patient was heading eastbound through a curve when an SUV crossed the center line. The ambulance driver couldn't avoid the head-on collision.

The driver of the SUV, Patricia Morgan, 57, of Junction City, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The paramedics and patient in the ambulance were taken in another ambulance to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend with non-life-threatening injuries.

The ambulance was on a non-emergency transport at the time of the crash with no lights or sirens activated.

Clear Lake Road was closed for more than four hours in the area.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
