Former elementary school principal arrested twice in four months

Posted: Updated:

A former Hillsboro elementary school principal is sitting in jail again.

Timothy Bishop was arrested Tuesday night. Police believe he was driving drunk when he caused a crash in Tigard.

The crash happened just before 9 p.m. near highway 99 and Coronado Street.

Police say at the time of his crash, Bishop's blood alcohol level was .25, which is more than three times the legal limit of .08.

Back in April of this year, Bishop was arrested after he ran into a parked car and drove off. According to court documents, he later admitted to drinking before the crash.

He also pleaded guilty to physical harassment charges involving his now ex-wife.

"I'm surprised he didn't learn the first time. It's a bad example to set for the kids, frankly," said Hillsboro resident Sue Lind.

"It's really shocking to me," said Hillsboro resident Anuj Madaria. "A principal of an elementary school, you don't expect (him) to be drinking and driving. That's the last thing you'd expect."

Bishop worked for the Hillsboro School District for 30 years, but was put on administrative leave in April when he was first arrested.

The district said that he is now no longer principal at Orenco Elementary School, but he is still getting paid.

Bishop remains in the Washington County jail, where he's being held without bail.
