SALEM, OR (KPTV) -

A man and his mom are facing drug charges after investigators said she gave him a ride to sell heroin to an undercover police officer.

Detectives said they learned Michael Van Houte, 25, was selling heroin in the West Salem area. On Thursday, arrangements were made for Van Houte to sell heroin to an undercover police officer, posing as a potential buyer.

Van Houte had just been released from the Marion County Jail two days prior, according to deputies.

Police stopped a car driven by Suzan Van Houte, 52, on Wallace Road, Thursday night. Investigators said she was driving her son around town.

Oregon State Police drug detection K-9s alerted to the presence of drugs in the car.

Investigators said during the traffic stop, Suzan Van Houte attempted to hide more than 8 grams of heroin.

Both Suzan and Michael Van Houte were arrested on charges of unlawful delivery and possession of heroin.

Both mother and son were booked in the Polk County Jail with bail set at $515,000.
