The Clackamas County fire chief honored a teen who saved the life of a former Navy rescue swimmer.

Eric Rauch, 19, received the Citizen Life Saving Award in a ceremony Monday night.

He rescued Lonnie Hamon from the Clackamas River on July 13.

Hamon was rafting when he became tangled in a nylon rope while attempting to free his raft from a log.

Firefighters said Hamon ended up underwater with the rope wrapped around his neck.

That's when Rauch and his cousin went in and were able to get Hamon free after three attempts, firefighters said.

According to firefighters, the teens stayed with Hamon and administered CPR, bringing him back to life.
