Child among 2 pedestrians struck by vehicles in Murfreesboro

MURFREESBORO, TN (WSMV) -

Murfreesboro police are investigating two separate crashes involving pedestrians, including a child, Tuesday evening.

Police said the first incident occurred about 5 p.m. when a pedestrian was struck in the 1500 block of New Lascassas Pike.

The pedestrian was transported first to St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital and then to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with serious injuries.

Then, a 12-year-old boy was struck and became trapped by a vehicle about 6:30 p.m. at the Kingwood Apartments in the 100 block of East Kingwood Drive.

Fire crews were able to extricate the child, and a medical helicopter took the boy to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital with serious injuries.

No other information has been released, including what led to the incidents or whether any charges are pending.
