PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A man under the influence of bath salts fought off being shocked with a Taser multiple times and tried to jump out a second-story window before five officers were finally able to get him in handcuffs Friday, according to police.

Portland police said they were called to the Best Value Inn at 3310 S.E. 82nd Avenue after getting a report of an unwanted person in one of the rooms.

Officers found Randy Sturdevant, 31, standing in the doorway of a room at the motel.

Sturdevant, who had an outstanding warrant for his arrest because of a parole violation, had armed himself with a metal bar and refused to drop the bar, police said.

Sturdevant instead tried to shut the door and jump out a second-story window, but officers began to struggle with him and used a Taser on him multiple times, according to the police bureau.

Sturdevant fought through the Taser cycles and continued to fight with officers until he was taken into custody.

Several officers suffered minor injuries during the struggle.

Sturdevant was taken to a Portland hospital to be treated for what police described to be a "drug-induced psychosis," and officers later learned he was under the influence of bath salts.

Once he was released from the hospital, police booked him into the Multnomah County Jail on his parole violation detainer, and charges of third-degree escape and resisting arrest.
