A former teacher at Oregon City High School will spend 10 days in jail after pleading guilty to exchanging inappropriate social media messages with a student.
Alexander Taylor also had to give up his teaching credentials in Oregon and will be barred from holding a job working around minors, prosecutors said.
The allegations surfaced in April 2012, when parents overheard students talking about a 16-year-old girl who sent partially nude photos to Taylor over SnapChat - an app that deletes the pictures after 10 seconds of viewing. Parents notified Oregon City High School and officials with the school got police involved after an internal investigation.
Police said Taylor also sent pictures via SnapChat to the student. Police said they weren't nude pictures, but they were inappropriate.
Prosecutors said the nature of SnapChat and its auto-delete feature slowed the investigation, but ultimately the testimony of witnesses moved the case forward.
