Tips from the public have led to several searches in the Pendleton area for a man considered a person of interest in two brutal attacks.
In each case, Danny Wu has not been found.
On Aug. 9, Karen Lange, of Pendleton, suffered critical injuries in an assault. Police started searching for Lange after she was reported missing because she didn't return from her daily walk along the Umatilla River Parkway.
She was found the next morning, unconscious in a brushy area below the walking path, and transported to Oregon Health & Science University Hospital in Portland.
Surveillance video now shows a man who police identify as Danny Wu just before the attack on Lange. Police say DNA from a pipe used to beat Lange matches DNA found at a murder scene from 2012.
In that case, police say 19-year-old Amy Jane Brandhagen was found stabbed to death in a Pendleton motel. Detectives say Wu matches the description of the killer in that case.
Wu has not been named a suspect in those cases. Instead, he is considered a person of interest for now.
Investigators searched several miles along the Columbia River and the cliffs near Hat Rock State Park on Tuesday on foot, by ATV and by boat after the caretaker at McNary Yacht Club reported seeing a suspicious man in the area.
There were no signs of anyone or remnants of camping spots found in the area.
On Aug. 22, a similar search was conducted near McNary Park and Two Rivers Correctional Insitution after a possible sighting of Wu was reported to police.
Though they have not yet led to Wu, investigators encourage anyone who believes they see a suspicious person to contact police.
Pendleton police describe Wu as a "loner" who doesn't associate with or talk to others. They said he is a frequent user of public libraries, and he typically arms himself with knives, screwdrivers or any device that can be used as a weapon.
Wu is described as an adult male, 18 to 25 years old with a tan or darker skin tone and brown or black hair. He's about 5'8" or 5'11" tall, weighing 150 to 175 pounds and was last seen wearing khaki shorts and a dark brown or black shirt.
