A man and woman in Albany are accused of withholding medical care for their 12-year-old daughter, leading to the girl's death.

Albany detectives arrested Travis Rossiter, 39, and Wenona Rossiter, 37, at 8 a.m. Thursday on charges of first- and second-degree manslaughter. The charges stem from a secret indictment.

Police were called out to their home on the 500 block of Southeast Queen Avenue back on Feb. 5 for the death of their daughter.

An investigation was launched and detectives concluded the Rossiters withheld "necessary and adequate medical attention" for the girl. According to Albany police, doctors said her condition was treatable.

Investigators have not yet revealed the specific illness or condition in this case or the reason the parents withheld medical care.

Police said the Rossiters are members of The Church of the First Born. Fox 12 archives show that church has a history of choosing faith healing over modern medicine.

Investigators have not yet said whether that was the choice made in this case. However, fellow church members Brandi and Russel Bellew pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide after their son died from a ruptured appendix last year.

Also, Fox 12 records show Loyd and Christina Hays, also then members of The Church of the First Born, went to trial in the mid 1990s after their son died from a treatable form of Leukemia.

Loyd Hays was convicted of criminally negligent homicide, but his wife was acquitted. Court records list Christina Hays as a grand jury witness in the case involving the Rossiters.

Travis and Wenona Rossiter were booked in the Linn County Jail and are scheduled to be arraigned in court at 3 p.m. Friday. Their bail was set at $50,000 each.
