A Good Samaritan stepped in to stop a theft suspect from ripping off local coffee stand workers.

Police said Adrian Estrella, 19, of Sherwood, took cash from the tip jar at the Sherwood Dutch Bros. Coffee. He walked away, investigators said, but he didn't get far before a man stopped him.

According to Sherwood police, the Good Samaritan, who wishes to remain anonymous, detained Estrella until police arrived at the scene.

"The Good Samaritan told Estrella it was wrong to steal, and the money belonged to the business," officers reported.

Officers said they found the stolen money in Estrella's pocket, along with drug paraphernalia and heroin. Estrella was booked in the Washington County Jail.

The Sherwood Police Department said the actions of the man who stepped up to help in this case are commendable, even though people are generally discouraged from intervening with a crime in progress.
