Crestline Elementary goes back to school

VANCOUVER, WA (KPTV) -

Starting Wednesday, there will once again be a Crestline Elementary School.

All of Evergreen School District goes back to school Wednesday morning. For the teachers and students of Crestline, they will be together for the first time since a three-alarm fire destroyed the old school in February.

The student body was split up by grades and sent to five different schools within the district after the fire.

Some 500-plus students will now be taking classes this year at the former Hewlett Packard building on SE 34th Street.

The building was converted into classrooms over the summer.

The 166,000-square-foot building is color-coded by paint, so the unfamiliar hallways will be easier for students and staff to navigate their first couple of weeks.

The building already had an existing cafeteria and a space for a gymnasium.

Meanwhile, ground broke today on the new Crestline Elementary. It's being built on the site where the old one once stood.

Construction is set to be completed on the permanent school by the end of next summer.
