LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – UofL head basketball coach Rick Pitino was officially inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame.

Coach Pitino has led three different teams to seven NCAA Final Four appearances so far during his career. He won NCAA Championships when he coached at UK and of course in 2013 with UofL. He's the first coach in history to win the championship as a coach at two different schools. Since the start of his career at Boston University in 1978 he's reached over 600 wins.

Those accomplishments earned him a spot in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. He was inducted during the Enshrine Ceremony on 2 p.m. Sunday, September 8 in Springfield, Massachusetts.

"Watching the past three days, from Friday, the Hall of Famers going out… I really don't know what the heck I'm doing here to be quite honest," Pitino said in his enshrinement speech.

Several Hall of Famers justified why he was inducted, citing his ability to bring out potential in others, his organization and his work ethic.

"I've been around a lot of coaches. I played for Coach Rupp and I've worked with Coach Bryant. He's the best coach in any sport I've ever been around," said Hall of Famer CM Newton.

"Basketball is a team sport. I'm not Gary Payton and I'm not Bernard King. We are a team," said Coach Pitino.

Pitino said he's going to get right back to work and try to top all his accomplishments from this year—the NCAA title and the trip to the White House—in 2014.
