A big change is on the way to this year's ZooLights display.
The Oregon Zoo announced that its trains will be temporarily out of service through next summer while crews lay track for a new train route.
Zoo officials say they have to reroute the trains around the new elephant lands exhibit.
The train will be out of service for ZooLights 2013, but zoo officials said the new route will provide an improved view of the annual winter light display next year.
Zoo officials said they are confident the train will be up and running for the 2014 ZooLights display.
The Zoo Railway will be making its last runs of the season Sept. 22.
"We've planned construction very carefully to minimize the impact on visitors," said Heidi Rahn, director of the Better Zoo Program. "We knew we would have to take the trains out of service for a while as we built the new route, but we've kept the schedule tight and we expect to complete the new track in just over one year."
