Police activity on bridge, crash on highway stopped traffic

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Traffic was stopped on the St. Johns Bridge and Highway 30 during rush hour in Portland Thursday.

Police first responded to the west end of the bridge on a report of a woman climbing the railing at 2:35 p.m.

Officers found the woman and the Mobile Crisis Unit was called to the scene to talk to her. Police talked her off of the bridge and took her into custody about 8:45 p.m. Traffic was to reopen shortly.

Commuters were advised to use the Fremont Bridge instead.

At 3:50 p.m., police said a two-car crash occurred on Highway 30 under the bridge.

At least one person suffered injuries described as traumatic.

All lanes of Highway 30 were shut down while emergency crews responded to the scene. The highway was open again by around 5:45 p.m.
