Newberg drive-in wins digital projector contest

Posted: Updated:

A local drive-in movie theater in Newberg will continue to show movies thanks to community support.

The Highway 99W Drive In is one of five theaters across the country that won Honda's "Project Drive-In."

It was a contest that awarded drive-ins that had the most votes a $75,000 projector so they can make the transition from 35 millimeter film to digital.

Owners Brian and Camille Francis say when they got the call, they couldn't believe they had won.

The 99W Drive-In has been in Newberg since 1953.

Honda's Project Drive-In has now extended voting, making it possible for voters to try to save another Oregon drive-in: the Motor Vu Drive-In in Dallas.
