A man accused of reckless driving after leading police on a chase was caught 20 feet in the air up a tree.

Oregon State Police said it all started at 11 a.m. Monday in the La Pine area near Highway 97. Troopers attempted to stop a motorcycle driver for license and equipment violations.

Troopers said the motorcycle, with a man driving and a woman passenger, took off onto U.S. Forest Service land.

The troopers canceled their pursuit because of poor visibility from the motorcycle traveling on dirt roads. However, the trailing dirt cloud allowed them to keep the suspects in sight.

The troopers followed the tire tracks on foot for about a mile and found the motorcycle abandoned. The troopers then followed foot prints until they ended at the base of a tree.

Looking up, the man and woman were spotted in a hunter's tree stand about 20 feet off the ground at 11:45 a.m.

The pair came down without further incident and were taken into custody.

The driver, Chris Campbell, 30, of La Pine, was booked in the Deschutes County Jail on charges of felony attempt to elude in a vehicle, misdemeanor attempt to elude on foot, reckless driving and recklessly endangering another person. He was also cited for several traffic violations including driving while suspended.

The 30-year-old woman who was the passenger on the motorcycle was not arrested.
