Wauseon thieves caught after pocket-dialing 911

WAUSEON, OH (Toledo News Now) -

WauseonPolice say they were led right to a couple alleged criminals thanks totechnology.

Twoteens were caught with stolen items, allegedly taken from several cars. Policesay they were able to catch them thanks to an accidental phone call one of theteens made on their cell phone – to 911.

Policeused GPS to track where the call came from, and sent an officer to make sureeveryone was okay. The call led police to a bike trail in Rotary Park, wherethe teens were found. Police say the teens then admitted to breaking into carsthat night.

"It'snot the first time we've had anybody call us and accidentally call 911," saidPolice Chief Keith Torbet. "But it is the first time we've ever had a criminaldo it while they were in the act of committing a crime."

Thetwo were arrested and taken to jail on charges of theft, criminal trespassing,possession of drug paraphernalia, and underage alcohol consumption.
