PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A medical technician at Maricopa County's Fourth Avenue Jail is on paid leave after allegedly making derogatory comments to an inmate.

That inmate is former Phoenix police officer Richard Chrisman, who was booked into jail immediately after his conviction Tuesday for aggravated assault in the shooting death of a man in 2010.

During the booking process, the jail technician reportedly refused to perform a required physical on Chrisman, saying she wouldn't help him if he were on fire and wished he'd be severely beaten because, in her words, he killed a Hispanic man.

Chrisman fatally shot 29-year-old Daniel Rodriguez and his pit bull during a domestic violence call in October 2010.

The jury in Chrisman's murder trial Tuesday found there were aggravating factors in the crime, meaning he could face between five and 15 years in prison.
