Five die in Pendleton house fire

Posted: Updated:

A house fire in Pendleton killed five people, including three children, Saturday morning.

The fire started around 6 a.m. at the home on Southeast Court Place.

Crews arrived to find the two-story home engulfed in flames.

Two adults were able to escape the burning home.

Paramedics flew them both to Emanuel Hospital in Portland.

Crews found two adults and three children dead inside the home.

On Sunday police were trying to determine the identity of the victims.

At last word firefighters were working to figure out what started the fire and if the home had any working smoke detectors.

There was no word on the condition of the two survivors of the fire as of Monday morning.

Police Chief Stuart Roberts says there was no initial indication of foul play as authorities got into the residence after daybreak Monday. But he says no cause has been ruled out.

Roberts says the home appears to date to the early 20th century.
