GRESHAM, OR (KPTV) -

Gresham police think the weather was to blame for a rollover crash that killed an 11-year-old girl on Sunday.

Yoselyn Escobar-Vargas died in the crash that happened around 4 p.m. on the ramp to westbound Interstate 84 from Northeast 181st Avenue.

Police said the van was carrying nine people when it lost traction on the wet road as it reached the top of the ramp causing it to fishtail.

The driver was unable to control the van and at rolled of the ramp, Gresham police said.

According to police, the crash threw Escobar-Vargas from the van, causing fatal injures.

Paramedics took the other eight people in the crash to area hospitals with varying injuries.

As of Tuesday morning it was unclear if she was wearing a seat belt.

Gresham's Vehicular Crimes Team is looking into the crash.

Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or people that offered help to the people involved with the crash to call Gresham police.
