THE DALLES, OR (KPTV) -

Google has announced plans for a $600 million expansion in The Dalles.

The company opened a data center in the Columbia River Gorge in 2006. On Thursday, Google announced plans to expand.

The city of The Dalles and Wasco County approved a second enterprise zone agreement with Google for the expansion. The original agreement included Google investing $33 million and creating 35 jobs.

The data center now employs 80 people and the company stated it has invested more than $600 million in the facility. The expansion is set to create at least 10 new positions from an initial investment of $200 million, the company stated.

A timeline for the project was not released Thursday, but Google executives said their total investment in The Dalles will be $1.2 billion once it's completed.
