Oregon beats Cal in rain-soaked Pac 12 opener

Posted: Updated:

It was a rain-drenched Pac 12 Conference opener for the Oregon Ducks and California Golden Bears at Autzen Stadium on Saturday night.

It was a scary start for the Ducks when running back De'Anthony Thomas was hurt returning the opening kickoff.

Thomas grabbed his lower right leg and was helped off the field, though he did reappear after halftime on crutches. Because Oregon doesn't discuss injuries as a policy, it is unclear how serious it is.

The Ducks and Golden Bears each had four fumbles in the first half of the game alone.

Oregon was able to handle the soggy conditions better, building a 41-3 lead before halftime.

The driving wind and rain was able to shut down the "Bear Raid" offense that Cal head coach Sonny Dykes installed.

Marcus Mariota threw for two touchdowns and ran for another on the way to Oregon's 55-16 win.

Oregon now heads to Boulder next Saturday to take on Colorado.
